Keiji Inafune announced and launched the spiritual successor to Mega Man, Mighty No. 9 during a panel at Pax earlier this month. As the Kickstarter page went live attendees watched as the money just started rolling in. As well Inafune gave the panel attendees limited and individually numbered Mighty No. 9 T-shirts. This is quite an announcement as Inafune tried to get Mega Man Universe, and Mega Man Legends 3 off the ground but Capcom cancelled both. Leaving Mega Man fans without new games, and the future of Mega Man uncertain with Inafune’s departure of Capcom to found comcept LLC.

In just over 24 hours Mighty No. 9 reached its funding goal of $900,000, and with less than 21 hours to go it currently sits at $3,214,851. The Kickstater rewards are also quite awesome as a physical game box retro style in either NES or Famicon style. At this time the game has reached stretch goals that will bring the game to PC, Mac, Linux, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, as well as PS4 and Xbox One versions which their info-graphic shows they have reached. I hope that the Kickstarter will hit their 3.5 Mil stretch goal to bring the game to PS Vita and N3DS. As I would love to play this game on the go in addition to HD.
I myself, being a huge fan of Mega Man, am greatly excited for the Mighty No. 9 game and the franchise that it will likely spawn. I am glad to see Inafune, with his team comcept, creating games under his own volition. I hope that this becomes a better and larger franchise than Mega Man just to show Capcom how dumb they were in handling that franchise. I really like where concept as a company is going making some very interesting games like Soul Sacrifice and YAIBA: NINJA GAIDEN Z. As a fairly new company they already have two franchises on their hands and I look forward to what Inafune and his team can create. I look forward to purchasing several versions of this game just to prove to Capcom how they dropped the ball with Mega Man.
Looking forward to the future of
Mega Man Oops, I mean Mighty No. 9? Sound off in the comments.
