“Today we are announcing with our partner, Wizards of the Coast, that we will discontinue game services for Magic: The Gathering – Tactics on March 28, 2014. We are honored to have been a part of bringing you the magic of the Multiverse over the last few years. It has been a fun and memorable journey, and we thank you for all of your dedication and support.”
In their FAQ on the subject they say that the game and all services will be turned off. Users with funds in the game will have their funds available in the SOE Wallet. Sony Online Entertainment will not license or authorize the operation of a Magic: The Gathering – Tactics emulator or fan operated server. So the game will just disappear. I feel bad for users, I played the game a bit, it was okay kind of weird. This is the problem with any game that has such an online proponent. Which is why I am so against any game that requires an internet connection. As well, that is why I was so against the Xbox One requiring an internet connection for each game played. The future of all these games, and such online required games, that they inevitably will just disappear and be no more. It is a sad thing indeed.
How do you feel about various games shutting the doors and becoming no more? Or do you find it is nothing to worry about? Sound off in the comments.
